Community Spotlight:
Tribute to Peggy Moore and HOPE
Peggy Moore and her wife HOPE were cherished community leaders and advocates for social justice and LGBTQ+ rights. Tragically, they were both killed in a car crash. Peggy, known for her work with the Obama campaign, and HOPE, her dedicated partner, left a lasting legacy of love and activism. To honor their memory, the Peggy Moore & HOPE Wood Family Fund has been established to continue their work supporting LGBTQ+ rights and community empowerment.
Nonprofit Spotlight:
The Dream Keeper Initiative
The City and County of San Francisco’s Dream Keeper Initiative is a citywide effort launched in 2021 to reinvest $60 million annually into San Francisco’s diverse Black communities. This Initiative is part of Mayor London N. Breed’s roadmap for reforming public safety and addressing structural inequities in San Francisco by reassigning a portion of the Police and Sheriff Departments’ budget to address and remedy racially disparate policies so that the dreams of young African-Americans and their families are no longer deferred, and they have the needed resources and support to thrive in San Francisco.
Our History
Through music and live performances, the Soul of Pride Urban Global Village stage provides a welcoming and affirming space for Black/African Americans and People of Color during San Francisco’s Pride Celebration. Showcasing the racial and ethnic diversity of the LGBT community, the Soul of Pride Urban Global Village Stage features music from Black and Brown communities spanning from Asia to Latin America.
From 2009 through 2018, San Francisco’s Pride Celebration included Pink Saturday, one of the largest LGBT nighttime civic event in the western United States, attracting nearly 100,000 people. From 2009 through circa 2018, The Global Village stage was one of four performance stages at Pink Saturday. With the community’s decision to not move forward with Pink Saturday, the Global Village stage was integrated into the San Francisco Pride Civic Center festival site, sharing a stage with the Soul Of Pride African Diaspora Stage.
